CLOGGED PIPES: HOW TO PREVENT DRAIN LINE STOPPAGES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

No one wants to deal with clogged pipes at any time of the year, but it can be an especially annoying inconvenience during the holiday season. How much better would all the guests, visits, and get-togethers be if they weren’t interrupted by plumbing problems?

As much as we love our customers, we hope you don’t need a visit from our licensed plumbers during your holiday! So here are a few things you can do to avoid drain line stoppages and main line clogs throughout the season. And, since some homeowners here in Cincinnati will still have to deal with clogged pipes, we’re also going to let you know what to do if you do get that dreaded drain backup.

How to Prevent Clogged Pipes

The easiest way to keep your pipes from clogging is to make sure nothing goes into the main line that shouldn’t. There are a number of items that just won’t break down in your pipes or will cause gradual buildup, and they should simply never be put down your drain or flushed.

Here’s what NOT to put into your pipes:

Eggshells
Grease, oils or fats
Coffee grounds
Produce stickers
Rags
Paper towels
Condoms
Feminine hygiene products
Flushable diapers
Flushable kitty litter
Toxic chemicals like antifreeze, nail polish, etc.
What to Do If You Have a Backup

Smaller stoppages, slowdowns, and backups can often be cleared with a plunger. If that’s not working (especially if there were warning signs that your main line was becoming clogged), it’s probably a larger clog and will need a licensed plumber with specific equipment to unclog.

Whether the cause of your clogged pipes is from build up or tree roots, our licensed plumbers will be able to diagnose and repair the situation quickly. With more than 30 years in business, we are an experienced team who will find what’s going on with your plumbing system and fix it for good.

Medium to large sewer stoppages are often best investigated and diagnosed through the use of a camera inspection. We can then identify exactly where the blockage is located, whether it’s in the main line or any of the other sewer lines in your home. It will also alert us to any potentially damaged areas to be careful in so as not to cause further problems.

Once our licensed plumbers have cleared the clog, we can then do a final camera inspection to make sure your main line is really good to go so you won’t be making another call in a couple of days.
