As a homeowner in the Cincinnati area the work never seems to stop. You just finished cleaning up all the leaves and now it is time to start thinking about winterizing your house. We have already seen the first freeze, and there are many more on the way. This time of year we always see a spike in the number of plumbing calls coming in due to frozen pipes in Cincinnati. By far the most common call is for an outside hose faucet that has frozen, burst the pipe and now water is spraying all over the basement. Not a fun place to be on a chilly morning.
The Best way to make sure this does not happen to you is very simple. Remove the hose from the faucet, let the water drain out, and leave the hose disconnected from the faucet until spring. Most people (myself included) leave their hose connected to the outside faucet all summer. Watering the lawn, washing the car, washing the dog, I use the outside faucet a lot in the summer and it is simpler to leave the hose connected. But now that the temperature is starting to dip it is important to remove that hose to prevent freeze ups.
